Easy Fall Home Decorating by the Home Decor Genie!  Want to give your home a fresh look for fall?  Here’s my Fall Home Decorating ideas that will make your home warm and welcoming!

Pick a theme, I always like “harvest” for this time of year.  It encompasses several holidays and you can incorporate natural elements into your decor.

  • Set a Harvest table: use one large pumpkin and surround it with leaves, small gourds and candles
  • Another table idea: use a basket for gourds or fruits and veggies, then add leaves and candles
  • Line up 3 hurricane candle holders and fill them with a pillar candle and some type of fill such as fall-colored glass pieces or potpourie.
  • Make your entrance welcoming: Place a fall-inspired doormat outside your door and another one inside for catching the last bits of dirt.
  • Add a warm glow throughout your home with plenty of candles or use the fake, battery operated ones for safety.
  • Fill your home with delicious, warm scents with aroma-therapy.  There are many versions of these like: scenter bottles, scent-burners or scented oils and rings you can add to your light bulbs.
  • Celebrate the season with a Harvest-themed wreath for your front door.  If you have a fireplace, place one over this too!
  • Last but not least – offer tasty treats that you make yourself or buy and bake.  Some ideas are: warm, fruity pies or the typical pumpkin and pecan.  Or bake up some mini tarts or warm appetizers

Fall colors!

Fall colors!

Spice up your home decorating with color and aroma! Yum!

It’s fall and time to bring some of the colors of fall and scents of the season into your home.  Mums are abundant and come in many colors and varieties.

Don’t you just love fall?!!  Well, I certainly do!   It’s a great time to decorate your home. The weather is cooler and here in Colorado, the leaves burst into color seemingly overnight!  You can enjoy leisurely walks, taking in the sights.  Although winter is just around the corner, it’s so nice to take time to enjoy this season.

So, how do you decorate your home with the colors of fall?  Here are some suggestions that I use, but I’d love to hear some of your ideas!  Tell me what you do or some of your traditions!

Bring in the colors:

  • Flowers! Mums are the stars here. They come in so many colors and last a long time if potted.  Put them in a nice basket or wrap them with foil paper and a bow.

  • Colorful leaves and stems.  I like to find branches that still have leaves attached and plop them into a large urn or vase.  Spread them out a little and add some small cattails or other dried material.  You can make this a table-top size or go large and stand it on the floor in an entryway.
  • Gourds, pumpkins and squash!  Need I say more?  Well, I will…fill a large basket with this colorful garden bounty.  It looks festive on your front porch or in the entryway.  Or put one on the hearth by the fireplace.  Decorate your table with a smaller basket or bowl of gourds.  The possibilities are endless.
  • And if you love Halloween, add a little fun with seasonal decorations.  Have fun carving a pumkin or two and then put it on display.
  • If Halloween isn’t your thing (it’s not mine), then dress your home for fall with a “harvest” and thanks-giving theme.  There’s so much you can do here.
  • Candles look warm and inviting in hurricane vases with rich-looking glass pieces.  Choose candles with the scents that you like and bring a delicious aroma into your rooms.
  • This a good time to set out potpourie and fill the room with scents.  Or go for the scented oils in scenter bottles.  There’s a nice variety of containers to choose from.

Just keep it simple.  Too much of any decoration can look cluttered, so pick something you like and make it a focal point.  Most of all, enjoy the season and bring a little of it into your home to prolong this glorious time!
