Home Decor Genie – Holiday Madness

Home Decor Genie – Holiday Madness can really get you down if you let it!

Be sure to take care of yourself while you prepare for the holidays! Stop and think about what it’s all about. For many of us it has deep spiritual meaing and a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. For some, it’s about family, togetherness and good times. Don’t lose site of that – it’s easy to get caught up in the shopping, cooking, baking, wrapping, entertaining, etc, etc.

Surround yourself with the things you love! What makes you happy? Your home should reflect that. Do you enjoy family photos on your walls? Or maybe you have collections that bring you memories. If you’ve traveled, you may have souvenirs that you want to see. Find a way to display these things so you can enjoy them.

One mistake many people make is that they overdo it. Remember that “less is more” when decorating! When you have too much on display, nothing is special. One or two items showcased make a bigger impact. Pack some of your items away and change them from time to time. That way, you can enjoy all your treasures but not all at once!

And, when deocrating, the same principle holds true! “Less is more!” Save yourself and be selective about the decorations that you use. Lights make a place special. And a few well-choosen, well-placed decorations will stand out!

Most of all, have fun and enjoy the season. Even though you have to work, and have responsibilities, you still need to take time out to relax; to connect with those you love and to find what’s real.

Wishing you a beautiful season! The Home Decor Genie

  • Simon – Those digital picture frames are a great idea! My parents love that sort of thing. If you have people on your list who love to take and display photos, it’s perfect for them.

  • Hi Home Decor Genie,

I’ve been seeing some electronic picture frames in local flyers recently. Are those tacky nor not?
